Eagle Virtual Academy

The Weatherford School District believes that the best education is one that is delivered in school by a teacher.  However, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize that some parents/guardians may not be comfortable sending their children to school.  To accommodate these families, the Weatherford School District is proud to partner with Edgenuity to offer a fully online educational option called Eagle Virtual Academy (EVA).  Any family interested in this virtual program will need to complete and submit an application no later than Friday, July 31.  Applicants will be contacted by a Weatherford Public School employee for an informational meeting to discuss all aspects of the program.  A link to the application is at the bottom of this web page.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • The Eagle Virtual Academy will be offered for all students (K-12) that reside within the Weatherford School District.

  • The Eagle Virtual Academy is different from digital learning that may occur during school closure.

  • The Eagle Virtual Academy is for families who want their children enrolled with the Weatherford Public School District, but do not want to send their children to a school building for in-person instruction.

  • All Eagle Virtual Academy instruction will be delivered online through interactive lessons.  Students will complete lessons at their own pace and will be supported by a virtual teacher and/or onsite mentor who is an employee for the Weatherford School District.

  • The Eagle Virtual Academy will follow the same school calendar and grading windows as in-person instruction.

  • Eagle Virtual Academy students will be expected to adhere to the rules and procedures in the school handbook.

  • Assignments will be graded and daily participation is an expectation.  Failure to regularly participate and/or to complete assignments in a timely manner may result in failing grades and lead to retention.

  • Families choosing to enroll in the Eagle Virtual Academy must be able to provide their child with a computer, internet connection, and telephone.

  • Students participating in the Eagle Virtual Academy will be required to complete state assessments onsite.

  • Final exams will be required to be completed onsite.

  • 7th-12th grade students may have the option to enroll in onsite electives.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

In order to participate in this program, parents must:

  • Register and enroll their child in the Weatherford Public School District.

  • Commit to their child completing a full semester of online instruction.

  • Monitor and assist their child with online courses as needed.

  • Hold their child accountable for completing online course work.

  • Serve as the point of contact for the virtual teacher and/or onsite mentor.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

In order to participate in this program, students must:

  • Complete assignments and assessments independently, without assistance from others.

  • Demonstrate progress in each course throughout the semester.

  • Contact the virtual teacher and/or onsite mentor when assistance is needed.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All submitted applications will be reviewed by a committee as they are received.  Parents/guardians of the applicant will then be contacted by a member of the Weatherford Public School District to schedule an informational meeting to discuss the program requirements.  All applicants as well as a parent/guardian must be available to take part in the informational meeting.  Please note that any student unable to show proof of residency will be unable to enroll in the Eagle Virtual Academy.
